CAWDEV (Cameroon Wheat Development Cooperative Society) emerges as a transformative force in Cameroon’s agricultural landscape. This agro-network excels in the production, value addition, and marketing of six crucial crops: wheat, barley, upland rice, soybeans, sunflower, and castor beans.
Three distinct categories of affiliated members—Natural, Moral, and Stakeholder—represent diverse enterprises engaged in economic activities beyond the cooperative’s ambit.
CAWDEV innovatively combines cooperative and network marketing models, prioritizing impact for enhanced performance.
Members find empowerment and willingly embrace CAWDEV obligations when they resonate with the impactful differences, fostering a sense of attachment.
The business model underscores value addition and seamless access across the marketing network, with quality control managed by specialized services within CAWDEV.
The cooperative’s structure allows affiliate enterprises to independently compete while being accountable for any noncompliance that could jeopardize the entire network.
A robust risk fact-check mechanism ensures reflection and accountability throughout the network.
Crop production is expanded through an extensive outreach plan organizing farmers into ‘Production Basin Units’ (PBU) across Cameroon.
These units, located in rural areas with abundant land and family labour, contribute to CAWDEV’S production network.
Established farmers and groups serve as guarantors of contracted deliveries.
CAWDEV operates through a ‘Four-in-one’ institutional framework, coordinated by the management secretariat.
This includes the Cameroon Wheat Development Cooperative Society Secretariat (CAWDEV-SEC), central for data analysis and located in Oku, Bui Division; the Cameroon Wheat Development Academy (CAWDA) providing technical training; the Cameroon Wheat Development Microfinance Institution (CAWDEV-MFI) managing financial matters; and the Rural Farmers Magazine (RFM), a public information source maintaining an apolitical stance.
Membership in CAWDEV is open to those interested in agribusiness, irrespective of nationality or land ownership and or engaging in agricultural production.
The cooperative’s holistic approach positions it as a pivotal player in advancing sustainable agricultural practices and fostering economic development in Cameroon.
